We were taken to a magical butterfly adventure at Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale – so worth seeing! Kudos to Butterfly Wonderland for making such a great, beautiful and educational butterfly sanctuary. There are many volunteers there that teach you things as you stroll the butterfly gardens. Some even walk around with foam paintbrushes filled with sap that the butterflies sit on and drink – just so unusual! You can see butterflies hatching from cocoons, huge blue butterflies, moths as big as a human head, so many things! There is also an educational video of the migration of the Monarch that is very well done and shows what a triumph of nature these Monarchs are. It takes three generations of Monarchs to make the Eastern migration, and you learn all about the third SUPER generation of Monarch. Makes you wonder if people ever get super generations, but that’s another story… I also learned quite a bit about butterfly favorite flowers to plant to help the butterflies survive, as the super agriculture farms that plant all one crop spell disaster for the butterflies. We can all plant some butterfly favorites (like milkweed!) to help them on their way. If you look at the plants in the videos you’ll see some that likely can grow in your area. Here are some videos taken of this lovely place, to entice you to visit yourself….
Nature really is AMAZING and magical and wondrous!
Below is a painting I created several years ago, “Butterfly Woman” – it has been licensed for glass plates – I think it might be time for me to paint another butterfly painting!
