Reading on the River Thales

Reading on the River Thales

While this dreamy artwork may not look it, this artwork is a nod to Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus who was both the first to explain natural phenomenon  without reference to mythology, earning him the title the “Father of Science,” and who was also hailed as the first true mathematician (and is the first person to whom a mathematical discovery has been attributed).   In other words, Thales was actually a quite courageous independent thinker.   (If that’s not convincing enough, even Aristotle was impressed with him!)   Reading on the River Thales depicts a dreamy, liquid landscape flowing around a reader lost in her book, sitting on the river bank.  Reading on the River Thales intentionally has a dreamy watery quality because Thales theory was that all things on earth are made of water.   Beyond the intellectual meaning of this artwork, I especially like the colors and mystical flow. In December 2014, this “Reading on the River Thales” artwork was one of two artworks highlighted in the “Creatives You Should Know” article on The Creative Network blog that reviewed my artwork and named me as a Creative You Should Know. To have “Reading on the River Thales” chosen to be featured in the article is important to me and very meaningful.
